Bodycam footage, along with on-the-scene footage that surfaced recently, found a white South Carolina police officer using the n-word twice on camera after he claimed a Black man on the scene called him the racist slur first. Now, the Columbia police officer has been suspended.
Sgt. Chad Walker reportedly went on a rant against a group of people outside of a bar this past Saturday night after a white man called him out for the way he was treating “people of color” who were on the scene, particular a Black man who was standing nearby. Walker called out the Black man and claimed he called the officer the n-word twice, repeating the word loud and clear. From there, the officer then says it’s okay for him to say the n-word before another cop came and took him away.
Since the incident, the chief of the Columbia PD has apologized, saying, “the repetition of the racial slur and failure to de-escalate the situation were inexcusable." Chad Walker has since then been suspended until the police department concludes a disciplinary conduct review.
