Following Chicago, reports show that the city of Philadelphia is now at the number two spot for it's homicide rates for the year of 2020, and the year isn't over yet.
On Tuesday, city officials met for a gun violence hearing to discuss how to mitigate it's rise in crime and violence. Sources say that the council of Philadelphia has listed top issues that causes the gun violence in their city, which includes "existing rivalries between gangs and groups; competition for territory to sell drugs; "Beefs" between individuals; and a rise in the likelihood for individuals to carry firearms."
Philadelphia has saw its homicide numbers increase by 32% for a tally of 247. Shootings are up by 36% in Philadelphia and an average of three children per week have been shot this year.
