A man who murdered a sleeping student and a mother of nine has been sentenced to 40-years in prison.
Obina Ezeoke, 28, was sentenced on Thursday after being found guilty of shooting dead Annie Ekofo, 53, and her psychology student nephew, Bervil Ekofo, 21, in a flat in East Finchley, north London, on 15 September 2016.
Ezeoke, crept in through an unlocked door and shot Ekofo in the head at point-blank range as he slept at the family home that night.
After shooting the student he tried to creep out of the flat but was disturbed by mother of nine, Mrs Ekofo who was awakened by the noise and went to investigate.
He shot her dead in the hallway.
Ezeoke carried out the revenge hit after footage of him being attacked was shared on Snapchat by rivals including Annie’s son Ryan Efey, 22.
According to reports, Ryan Efey was the intended target and Bervil was shot in a case of mistaken identity.
Ezeoke had gone to the flat with the intent to kill one of the residents as “part of a vendetta of violence”.
He was convicted of double murder in September.
In a statement, Annie’s husband, Osman Jeanefey, said: ‘I think about Annie every day, I can’t believe she is gone’.
‘Sometimes I feel I will go mad and the image of her dying on the floor is always in my head’.
“I hope that our lives will be better and God will give me the strength to stop crying’.
‘There is so much sadness in our house now’.
The sentencing Judge said the killings had been compared to an “execution”.
“Whatever the motive, you murdered two entirely innocent people”.
“Your cold, callous and brutal murders of two people has not only cut short their lives but ruined the lives of many”, she said.
“As the family slept, a murderer let himself in and shot Bervil Kalikala Ekofo, who was asleep and defenceless on a mattress on the floor, to the head at point blank range”.
