A man has been arrested and charged with killing his girlfriend, her sister and their mother.
John Matthews, 25, is said to have gone on a murderous rampage when his girlfriend said she would not cook his breakfast or braid his hair.
Matthews from Chicago and his girlfriend, Shonta Harris, had been dating for two years.
Harris who gave birth to their son 4-months ago gave police a videotaped statement identifying him as the shooter before she succumbed to a gunshot wound.
Matthews’ own grandmother who witnessed the whole attack also told authorities that he was the killer, prosecutors alleged.
Matthews, 25, fled to Iowa after the triple shooting in June and was only arrested after getting into a car accident there in August, authorities said.
He was extradited back to Illinois this week on the murder warrant.
Judge Charles Beach II ordered him held without bail on three counts of first-degree murder, noting that “his own flesh and blood has identified him as the shooter.”
Matthews’ attorney, Assistant Public Defender Rocio Armendariz, said in court Matthews has no previous criminal history and had worked for Amazon.
Harris was at Matthews’ home in the 8600 block of South Wood Street for Father’s Day and stayed over that night.
The next morning, Matthews told Harris to cook breakfast for him, but she declined since she wasn’t feeling well.
He then asked her to braid his hair, which she also declined.
Harris went into a rage, started yelling and punched Harris in the eye.
Matthews’ grandmother tried to intervene, bringing Harris outside to defuse the situation.
But Matthews followed, yelling that he hated Harris and that she “doesn’t do it for him”.
Harris tried to call her mother for help, but Matthews grabbed her phone and broke it.
Matthews’ grandmother let Harris use her phone; soon, her mother Frances Neal and her sister Jasmine Neal were outside to pick up Harris.
Matthews yelled at them to get off his property and refused to let them inside to get the baby.
Jasmine Neal called 911, telling the call taker that Matthews had given her sister a black eye and was refusing to hand over their son.
The arguing continued as Matthews pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Frances Neal seven times, then shot Harris once in the chest, according to prosecutors.
Jasmine Neal ran into the street, “running for her life with her hands up,” but Matthews chased her down and shot her in the head.
Matthews’ grandmother called 911 as Matthews fled; she identified him as the shooter.
Frances and Jasmine Neal were pronounced dead at the scene.
Harris was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she gave police an extensive videotaped statement.
Not only did she identify Matthews as the shooter, she told police about past instances of his violence against her and said he had disabled her cellphone 28 times so that she could not call police on him.
Nah This Is Wicked!
