Jurnee Smollett, Roll Bounce Actress Opens Up About About Sexual Assault On Set Since She Was 12

Sexual assault is something that isn't uncommon. For years we've heard of sexual assault within Hollywood, and now, Actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell has opened up with "The Hollywood Reporter" about her experience on set since the very early age of just twelve years old.

Jurnee Smollett, 33 spoke about the mistreatment that Black women have to encounter within the entertainment industry. She opened up about the inequality in pay, the subliminal messages to erase black culture and even sexual harassment that she has personally experienced throughout her career as an actress.

Smollett told The Hollywood Reporter, "I don't know that I can confidently say that I worked on one job prior to Lovecraft—from the time I was 12 on—where I hadn't been sexually harassed, whether it was by an [assistant director], a co-star, director, producer..." She added, ""Like, a guy saying before we're about to do this love scene, 'Hey, your tits are going to be hanging in the wind,' is not OK," she said, before revealing she had stepped away from a project because the misconduct was so bad. "And they let me out."

Before concluding the discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Jurnee Smollett emphasized on how often the sexual assault on set would take place.

She no longer hesitates to speak her voice now that she knows how to navigate through the industry and does not apologize for it one bit.
