The father of Jacob Blake, a black man who was shot in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, says his son was left paralyzed from the waist down and now has "eight holes" in his body. However, doctors aren't certain if the paralysis will be permanent.
Jacob Blake, 29, was shot eight times during a Sunday evening confrontation with police, which was caught on cellphone video.
Since the shooting, anger has irrupted throughout the city of Wisconsin as well as in Chicago. The shooting of another black man, by an officer has led these cities to forceful protesting which has led police to fire tear gas at hundreds of protesters who defied a curfew, threw bottles and shot fireworks at law enforcement guarding the courthouse.
Tony Evers, Democratic Gov., has called out 125 members of the National Guard on Monday after protesters set cars on fire, smashed windows and clashed with officers in riot gear the previous night.
22-year-old Raysean White, the young man who was able to film the incident told authorities that he saw Blake scuffling with the three officers and heard them yell, "Drop the knife! Drop the knife!" before hearing gunfire, but he didn't see a knife in Blake's hands.
The governor says that he has seen no information to suggest Jacob Blake had a knife or another weapon, but that the case is still being investigated by the state Justice Department.
