Interviewing guests on air: 10 tips on how to conduct a good interview

Interviewing someone on air can be a little nerve wrecking. However, remember to do your research, listen and take notes. Below you'll find a few pointers!

  • DO YOUR HOMEWORK! No one likes the feeling of not knowing something when you should.

  • Do not talk about yourself! Comparisons are okay, but this isn't about you.

  • Never allow DEAD AIR. Try not to have silence between discussions, it can cause the audience to lose interest and now you're out of supporters.

  • Think like your audience! Find respectful ways to ask the questions that everyone is dying to get the answers to.

  • Have a steady flow. Remain UPBEAT and fluent.

  • Express passion. Listeners can tell if you love what you're doing by the tone of your voice! Aura is everything.

  • Refrain from saying "Umm". You know what you want to say, take your time to say it.

  • Remain on schedule. You never want to be on one topic but for so long.

  • It's okay to be controversial, just have your facts to back up your personal opinion.

  • Stay connected!
