According to reports, a Florida man named Larry Wiggins was arrested and is now facing felony charges for allegedly requesting a mail-in ballot for his dead wife.
When asked why he did it, the man claims that he was just testing the voting system.
The Manatee Supervisor of Elections—Mike Bennett, said Wiggins’ fraud was discovered when a routine check was made for the voter roll, which usually happens when someone requests a mail-in ballot.
The system is reportedly updated with information on voters who passed away. Bennett noted that when officials pulled up Wiggins’ file, they saw his wife had passed away two years ago. Officials compared the wife’s signature on the absentee ballot to her file, which showed that Larry Wiggins forged his wife’s signature.
Wiggins was charged with requesting a vote by mail ballot on behalf of another elector. Wiggins was released on $1,500 bail, and after getting out he claimed that he was trying to test the system, noting, “I feel like I haven’t done anything wrong.”
