Doc Rivers Agrees to Become the New Head Coach for the Philadelphia 76ers

Three days after his time with the Los Angeles Clippers came to an end, Doc Rivers has agreed to become the new head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The move returns the coach to the Atlantic Division where he'll be a rival to the Boston Celtics, the team where he won his only NBA championship as a coach.

Although the Sixers were originally interested in Mike D'Antoni, general manager Elton Brand quickly reached out to Rivers following the announcement that he would no longer coach the Clippers. Rivers was reportedly intrigued enough by the team's roster and marketplace to take meetings on Wednesday with Brand and owners, Josh Harris and David Blitzer.

Rivers will take over a Sixers team that has emerging superstars in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons but has underperformed in the playoffs. Sixers assistant coach Kevin Young and Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue were also interviewed for the head coach position.
