Cops in George Floyd Death Want Case Dropped Over Leaked Plea Deal

The death of George Floyd last year sparked numerous protests across the United States, and the police involved in the incident were arrested. Since the incident, the former cops were fired from their positions. Since then, ex-officers in the case have been looking for ways out of the charges, with reported plea deals being offered. Now, lawyers for three of the ex-cops in the case have filed motions to dismiss their cases.

The reasoning behind the request from the lawyers was due to alleged leaked plea-deal negotiations related to Derek Chauvin that “taint” the jury pool.

Ex-officers Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao are scheduled to be on trial on August 23, separately from Derek Chauvin, who put his knee in the neck of Floyd. The three ex-officers were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter and aiding and abetting second-degree murder. News of this comes after news was revealed that Chauvin previously pleaded guilty to third-degree murder days after the death of Floyd. Stay tuned for more updates.
