At Least 7 Young People Shot, One Fatally, at House Party in Brooklyn

Multiple young people were shot late Sunday night at a house party in Brooklyn and a 20-year-old woman has died.

The NYPD says gunfire broke out around 11 p.m. at an apartment building on Albany Avenue in Bed Stuy. The victims, ages 14 to 20 years old, were gathered at the party when an unknown person entered the location and started to shoot in the lobby as he ascended the stairs, according to police.

After the shooting, police say someone transported the 20-year-old victim to the hospital and where she was pronounced dead.

Other victims include an 18-year-old woman who was shot in the leg, a 19-year-old man who was shot in the torso, an 18-year-old man who was shot in the leg, a 14-year-old girl who was shot in the buttocks, a 16-year-old boy who was shot in the torso and a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the leg. All of them are expected to survive, police said.

The gun violence followed another shooting near a Sweet 16 party in East New York where a 17-year-old young man was shot. Investigators say they believe the victim was at that party on Liberty Avenue before 911 was called to disperse the crowd. Others who attended the party on Albany Avenue may have also been at the Sweet 16, police said.

What led to the shooting is still unclear but police said there is more than one shooter and no less than two guns were used.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
